Norah Niland, writing in her personal capacity, is a longtime aid practitioner and co-founder of United Against Inhumanity, a European-based non-profit association fighting to challenge indifference to the human costs of war. She has spent much of her professional life with the United Nations, focused on humanitarian, human rights, and development issues. During her last UN assignment, Niland was the director of human rights in the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan and representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
